Christmas Stars

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
Assorted colored jellies or jams for filling
Confectioners’ sugar for dusting (optional)

Directions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time.
In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until well combined and a dough forms.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using star-shaped cookie cutters.
Place half of the cutout cookies on ungreased baking sheets. Make a small indentation in the center of each cookie with your thumb or the back of a spoon.
Spoon a small amount of colored jelly or jam into the center of each indented cookie.
Use the remaining cutout cookies to cover the filled ones, pressing gently around the edges to seal.
Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
Dust the cooled cookies with confectioners’ sugar if desired.
